0

On the first annual Newcomer Day, proclaimed by Toronto Mayor John Tory on May 29, 2015, over 25 community agencies and city divisions working with immigrants participated in an information fair on Nathan Phillips Square. As part of the celebrations 60 people became Canadian Citizens at a ceremony at City Hall. There were also a number of activities like Newcomer Speakers’ Corner, where participants could share their feelings and ideas.

The first annual Newcomer Day was hosted by the City of Toronto in partnership with the Toronto Newcomer Leadership Table which includes representatives from Canada’s three orders of government, community agencies, school boards, health and other sectors.
