Surrey Stories of Impact: Moqadas’s journey of hope, community, and starting anew

After working as a journalist in Afghanistan, Moqadas was forced to leave her home in search of safety. Now based in Surrey, BC, she is rebuilding her future—pursuing studies in dental care while creating spaces of support for Afghan newcomers.

In this story, she reflects on loss, resilience, and the importance of community, while continuing to move forward with hope and determination.

This video is part of Stories of Impact, a storytelling series produced by the Surrey Local Immigration Partnership (LIP), managed by DIVERSEcity, featuring newcomers’ experiences of building their lives and finding belonging in Canada.
