New Canadians

The Canada InfoNet program by JVS Toronto—in partnership with New Canadians TV Network—is launching a free virtual event, Project Welcome Virtual Expo, to introduce pre-arrival immigrants to Canada’s welcoming small and mid-sized communities and share resources for a smooth transition.

Canada’s immigration needs and patterns are evolving, and communities across the country are looking to attract skilled talent. The Project Welcome Virtual Expo: Small Communities, Big Opportunities aims to connect approved immigrants preparing to move to Canada—or considering relocation within the country—with welcoming options beyond major urban centres. Not only does the event empower newcomers with the tools, information, mentorship, and networks they need before they arrive in Canada, it also supports communities and employers seeking to build inclusive and sustainable workforces.

“Pre-arrival engagement is one of the most impactful ways we can support both newcomers and communities,” says Allison Steinberg, CEO, JVS Toronto. “By connecting immigrants early to real opportunities, employers, and community voices, we help set the foundation for stronger employment outcomes and more successful settlement journeys.”

Through its pre-arrival program, Canada InfoNet, which has supported more than 15,000 newcomers, JVS Toronto has seen firsthand how early access to accurate labour market information, employer connections, and community insights can significantly improve employment outcomes and long-term retention.

“Canada is so much more than just Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver. There is a wealth of potential in our small and medium-sized towns and cities, where many immigrants are already finding incredible success,” says Gerard Keledjian, Founder and Managing Director, New Canadians TV Network. “Our mission is to shine a light on these communities, showing newcomers how they can build rewarding careers and lives there. The Project Welcome Virtual Expo is a vital extension of that mission: connecting pre-arrival and landed immigrants with real insights, support, and mentorship to help them thrive.”

New Canadians TV Network has also been supporting incoming newcomers through its annual virtual pre-arrival conference, Before You Arrive in Canada, and an ebook that serves as a guide for pre-arrival preparation. Together, these resources support smoother transition, integration, settlement, and employment journeys after landing.

Immigrating to Canada? Register for Project Welcome Virtual Expo: Small Communities, Big Opportunities

The Project Welcome Virtual Expo on February 12, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET, will showcase real stories and local perspectives that help pre-arrival immigrants better understand life, work, and settlement opportunities beyond large cities.

Beyond the major urban centers, many smaller Canadian communities offer less competitive job markets, stronger social ties, and greater opportunities for meaningful employment and settlement. This event encourages participants to explore these often-overlooked regions and connect directly with volunteer mentors from over 15 small and medium-sized communities.

Attendees will gain knowledge and create meaningful networks that extend well beyond arrival. At the Project Welcome Virtual Expo, participants will hear from community leaders, take part in mentoring roundtables with industry experts, and receive actionable advice in discussions on cultural adaptation and job market navigation—helping them make informed decisions about where to live and work in Canada and access trusted settlement and employment resources.

Approved immigrants arriving soon and permanent residents looking to relocate within Canada are invited to register for Project Welcome Virtual Expo.
