British Columbia’s Maryam Salehizadeh is inspiring the next generation of athletes
Knowing her potential as a Paralympic athlete, Iran’s Maryam Salehizadeh came to Canada in 2016, determined to wear the maple leaf. Now a proud member of Canada’s women’s goalball team, Maryam – who is visually impaired – mentors younger athletes and is a model just by her fierce independence and team spirit. Here’s an interesting fact – a total of 128 athletes were named to the Tokyo 2020 Canadian Paralympic Team, with 21 (16%) from British Columbia.
