Tons of food nearing its best-before date at grocery stores and other places often end up in the bin. Igor Bjelac, a Serbian immigrant who moved to Canada in 2015, took it upon himself to prevent this wastage of food while feeding people in need in the city of Coquitlam in British Columbia. His quest was fuelled by a documentary on food waste that he watched at the Vanier Centre, where he learned English.
Igor and his enthusiastic group of volunteers gather unsold food before its shelf life ends and provide it to the community. Now that’s how you make a positive impact. This is his story.
