Tips to help you build healthy co-worker relationships in the Canadian workplace

0

Team fit is a big component in Canadian workplaces. So, as a newcomer to the country, building and maintaining healthy co-worker relationships will not only help you shine but also contribute to your professional success. We asked communication coach Gloria Pierre for advice. Her top tips include:

  • Beware of whom you share personal information with and who you seek advice from. Co-workers need not become your friends!
  • If you have a conflict with a co-worker, don’t rush to discuss it with your manager. First, talk to the person with whom you have a conflict to resolve the issue. After that, if needed, escalate it.
  • At work, meet your timelines and schedules because other people are dependent on those. And if for some reason you expect delays, notify everyone immediately.

But what if someone on your team is slacking off and adding to your workload? Well, watch the video for the answer and more tips from Gloria, who is the President of Clearly Speaking – a company that provides speech and language services to students, newcomers, and internationally trained professionals, among others.
