This May 30, the city of Hamilton in Ontario will host Hamilton Newcomer Day 2025, a lively, inclusive celebration that not only honours the contributions of newcomers but also helps them feel more rooted in their new home.
Hosted annually by the Hamilton Immigration Partnership Council (HIPC), Newcomer Day is a free event that will transform the Hamilton City Hall into a hub of celebration, community, and connection.
“Newcomer Day showcases all the vibrancy that immigrants bring to our city,” says Sarah Wayland, Senior Project Manager of Hamilton Immigration Partnership Council at City of Hamilton. “We know that newcomers have many challenges, and we work to reduce those. The information fair offers newcomers the opportunity to learn about the many services and programs that could help them settle in Hamilton.”
With several newcomer-settlement organizations hosting booths on-site, newcomers can explore everything from language programs and employment resources to healthcare and legal support—all in one accessible, welcoming space.
But this day isn’t just for newcomers. Everyone is invited to join the festivities, learn more about the city’s diverse communities, and take part in building a more inclusive Hamilton.
Here’s what to expect at Hamilton Newcomer Day 2025
Stop by the Information and Services Fair, where more than 50 community, settlement, education, and awareness organizations will help connect you with a wide range of free and subsidized programs and services, all in one convenient spot. From housing and health care to employment and language classes — this is your chance to ask questions and find support that’s tailored to your needs.
In addition to essential resources, the day also features live entertainment and performances. Enjoy vibrant musical acts and cultural showcases from talented local artists, celebrating the diversity that makes Hamilton such an inclusive and dynamic city.
If you’re craving something new, the event will feature a food truck zone and a vendor marketplace offering an array of multicultural dishes and handmade products that celebrate Hamilton’s newcomer communities.
In addition to entertainment, food, marketplace, and information booths, this year will have a few new offerings: a kids zone run by a professional team of newcomers, a community zone for informal organizations, and guided tours of city hall offered throughout the afternoon. There will also be more French-language programming, right from the stage performances and activities to signage.
The festivities will begin with one of the most moving moments of the day: a Canadian Citizenship Ceremony in Council Chambers. 30 Hamiltonians will take their citizenship oath. “The broader public can experience the magic of this ceremony and share their joy,” shares Sarah.
Hamilton Immigration Partnership Council thanks RBC, the event sponsor, for their continued support, noting that the event wouldn’t be possible without their partnership.
