The sights and sounds of Afghans impacted by the US withdrawal and the lightning-speed takeover by the Taliban have been front and centre on our television screens recently. In response, the Canadian government has committed to resettling 40,000 Afghans through the end of 2023. At present, almost 3,000 Afghan refugees have arrived and an additional 5,000 Afghans are expected to get here in the next five months.
This panel will discuss the situation of these newest arrivals to Canada as well as provide options for those who are inclined to lend a neighbourly hand in their resettlement.
Panellists:
Wendy Cukier – Founder and Director, Diversity Institute | Co-founder, Lifeline Afghanistan
Vera Dodic – Manager, Toronto Newcomer Office, City of Toronto
Neela Hassan– Afghan Journalist | PhD Student, University of Waterloo
