Dearth of skilled labourers gives immigrants a unique opportunity
The lure of big money from a corporate job has overshadowed the importance of essential trades needed in a society. Electricians, plumbers, carpenters etc. are indispensable for the smooth functioning of a community. Tyler Charlebois explains to us why the Ontario College of Trades is looking to promote the skilled trades and how new immigrants can use the opportunity to enter Canada. The shortage of personnel with these skills puts potential immigrants at an advantage. Any skills new immigrants posses can be transferred over to Canada via a simple Trade Equivalency Assessment. They can hone their proficiency with an apprenticeship that includes on-the-job training and being paid for the work done. Apart from job satisfaction, the skill trades offer well-paying jobs too.
