A glimpse into a refugee reception centre in Canada
Here’s a glimpse of how Canada is helping Syrian refugees settle down in their new country. The Government of Canada has opened reception centres across Canada, which are run by organizations like COSTI Immigrant Services. Here, refugees have access to health and counselling services and orientation sessions that prepare them for finding new jobs. One of the important activities in these centres is the art therapy classes for children. These therapy classes help the children externalize the trauma that they have undergone, instead of holding it back. The centres have kitchens and dining areas and the organizations running them also help refugees get health and social insurance cards.
