Supporting immigrants before they land in Canada
The Canadian Immigrant Integration Program (CIIP) was launched to serve immigrants before they enter Canada, so they come prepared to find a job and settle down without much delay.
Armand Landas, an infrastructure engineer and a CIIP graduate from Manila, Philippines talks about the kind of support he received from his CIIP counselor and how he maneuvered through the job search process to land a job with BC Hydro that matched his skills and experience. CIIP gave him a very realistic view of what to expect once he lands and connected him to professional organizations where he could get his credentials assessed and build his network. You may not be able to think of all these things if you are doing it on your own, he says.
